Olympic newcomer to emerge in San Juan on Sunday

 

San Juan, Puerto Rico, May 22, 2016 - The last competition day at the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Olympic Qualification Tournament in San Juan poses two questions - will Colombia beat Algeria in straight sets and will Kenya manage a 3-0 victory over Puerto Rico.  If the answer to either of those questions is "no", then the squad from the small Caribbean island can start packing for Rio on a historic first trip to the Olympic Games.  Even if both answers are "yes", a newcomer to the Olympics will emerge.



Algeria and Colombia will meet up in the first match of the last competition day at the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Olympic Qualification Tournament in San Juan.  The African side has already lost any chances to qualify for Rio 2016, while for the South Americans the Olympic dream seems quite distant, but is still alive. To save any hope for a ticket to Brazil, Colombia need to win this one in straight sets.  Read more.



The team hosting the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Olympic Qualification Tournament in San Juan, Puerto Rico, just needs to win one set in the last match against Kenya to qualify for the Olympic Games for the first time in history.  It is even possible that the Puerto Ricans have already booked their ticket before the start of the game, if Colombia fail to beat Algeria in straight sets in the match before.  Read more.
