Madeleine Montaño led Colombia to a cruising victory over Kenya on Friday
San Juan, Puerto Rico, May 20, 2016 –Madelaine Montaño showed no signs of slowing down sparking Colombia to a convincing debut at the Women’s World Olympic Qualification Tournament trouncing Kenya in straight sets 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-13) at Roberto Clemente Coliseum on Friday.
The eye-popping performance by the 33-year-old veteran reminded everyone watching that there is still enough fuel in the tank as she topped all the players in the match with 16 points, including three aces.
Kenny Moreno contributed 12 points in the victory while Melissa Rangel scored five blocks among her total of 10 points. Bracksides Khadambi led Kenya with 8 points.
Colombia dominated in all the scoring categories with advantages of 33-22 in attacks, 10-4 in blocks and 10-5 in aces.
The serves and blocking by the Colombian side proved to be too much for the Kenyans as the South American squad completely dominated the first set from start to finish. Melissa Rangel scored with three of the five blocks of her team.
Montaño took charge with thundering spikes helping Colombia to build an 8-5 lead in the second set with. The difference increased to 9 points at 16-7 and closed at 25-15 despite a short reaction by Kenya sparked by Murambi.
The third set was not different than the first two with Colombia leading 8-4 and 16-6 at the technical time-outs
